Trailer for new Peacock series Poker Face

Glass Onion director Rian Johnson's next whodunit, the Peacock series Poker Face starring Natasha Lyonne, is getting a brand new official trailer.

Poker Face was created by Johnson, who also directed the first two of the season's ten episodes.

The series stars Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll) as Charlie Cade, a woman on the run who finds herself at the center of a series of murder mysteries starring a slew of celebrity guest stars, including Adrien Brody (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty). ), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Super Pumped), Chloë Sevigny (Bloodline), Tim Meadows (The Goldbergs (2013)), Benjamin Bratt (DMZ), Hong Chau (Watchmen (2019)), Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy), Stephanie Hsu (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Luis Guzmán (Wednesday).

Poker Face

Peacock shares the new official trailer for the series ahead of the official release of Poker Face on Thursday, January 26, when the first four episodes will be released. The trailer explores why Charlie has to hit the road when her job as a casino clerk lands her in hot water and she's targeted by a crime boss. She seems to be followed by a death curse, with murder mysteries popping up everywhere she goes as she tries to avoid the "wolves in sheep's clothing".

Poker Face doesn't really hide its connection to the Knives Out universe. In fact, it shows it off. In addition to proudly announcing that the series comes from "the writer/director of Knives Out," the series was subtly teased in the Knives Out sequel Glass Onion, which dropped on Netflix two weeks ago. During an early scene of the film, Daniel Craig's detective Benoit Blanc can be seen playing a game of Among Us with other famous mystery-related people, including Angela Lansbury (Murder, She Wrote), Steven Sondheim (the writer of "The Last or Sheila"), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (the writer of several Sherlock Holmes mysteries after he retired from basketball), in addition to Lyonne himself.

Fans might fear that Poker Face is too similar to the Knives Out movies, especially given that those movies follow a similar format, with Blanc encountering a new mystery each time. However, the true intent of Poker Face is hidden in the trailer's 1970s-inspired soundtrack. Lil Rel Howery (Rel), who also stars on the series, put it best when he described it as an "old school mystery series" along the lines of Matlock, Perry Mason and In the Heat of the Night.
