Rake

A pretty nice series that got an American remake a few years ago, but it only lasted a single season. Cleaver Greene is pretty much the Australian counterpart of Frank Gallagher from "Shameless" except that this drug, sex and gambling alcoholic does have a job. After all, Cleaver is a pretty brilliant lawyer when he's on his toes; A flamboyant advocate who, in an unprecedented style, usually tries to exonerate Sydney's scum on the basis of reasonable doubt and usually succeeds quite well. Also his own legal problems, because he himself is prosecuted for tax fraud, he knows inimitably to postpone and hold off. Private it is already a mess; He is divorced from his wife Wendy with whom he still maintains a very friendly relationship, has an on-again-off-again relationship with Missy a prostitute, but also does not turn his hand to make Scarlet, the wife of his best friend and partner Barney advances. And just about any other woman who crosses his path .... At times, however, his love affairs become unusually funny, especially when he falls in love with Felicity, a female psychiatrist and sister of a friend with whom he shared a cell. The way he tries to seduce her during his dates with Felicity but keeps her unwittingly in hospital is hilarious. A simple bunch of flowers, a combination of take-away Chinese and a backgammon game, or just a misunderstanding with a door will suffice to wake the woman the day after in a hospital bed. An eminent gambling addict, Cleaver is also a man who doesn't miss a chance if he thinks he can earn a little extra. Usually this only results in even more debts to the wrong persons with all the consequences that entails. When he does win a small fortune in a very drunken mood in a casino, he overhears a conversation during a party about an investment in a restaurant and immediately decides to jump in with it. He did not hear the beginning of the conversation in which it was said that it is a purely tax-related matter ... A nice series with countless complications, although everything remains easy to follow. The fact that there is a leap in time between two seasons is not bad at all, but unfortunately this happens several times during the fourth season also in between two episodes, which I think makes the last season a little less good. Although according to mijnserie.nl this series has ended, this is not the case at all and there is a chance that a fifth season will come. Anyone who likes humor, a lot of crazy situations and sometimes brilliant speeches will certainly find something to their liking in this slightly different series.
