Despite the poor ratings, FOX has ordered four more scripts of ‘Red Band Society’. That's a good sign because that means that FOX has no intention to cancel ‘Red Band Society’ yet. Unfortunately, it is still not certain that the four additional scripts will be taken into production. We don’t even know if it will be broadcast at all. It's just a tactic to delay making a decision and to say to the series: "You aren’t so bad."
‘Red Band Society’ doesn’t generate impressive ratings. The pilot episode, which premiered 17 September, just had 4,1 million viewers. That's not such a good start, especially if you take into account the fact that the debut of ‘Red Band Society’ aired earlier in the season than most new series. The fifth episode only had 3,17 million viewers which means that the future of the series hangs by a thread.
Although ‘Red Band Society’ is not good enough for a full season, FOX will not cancel the series that fast. It's no secret that FOX isn’t doing well this autumn season. ‘Mulaney’ was already shortened this weekend but will be broadcast on Sunday night. And with so few options to fill Wednesday evening, it’s not likely that ‘Red Band Society’ is going to be cancelled yet. It's likely that the series will continue anyway because the alternative is worse.
