Resident Alien - Season 1
Resident Alien is not a standard comedy. The dry humor is sometimes very subtle and the characters are rarely really realistic. Still, there's a lot to like if you give it some time.
We know Alan Tudyk from a whole pile of films and series, but for me he remains one of the unforgettable heroes from Firefly. In what was one of the most beloved series ever - which was treated incomprehensibly by its own society - he was one of the most striking characters.
Twenty years later, he finally gets a real leading role. In Resident Alien he is an alien who visits Earth on a mission. However, his spaceship crashes and he is forced to live here for some time. To avoid being noticed, he adopts the identity of an earthling. Unfortunately, that is the new doctor in the nearby town and “Doctor Harry Vanderspeigle” is therefore naturally the center of attention.
It soon turns out that he actually has no idea how earthlings behave. He does his best to integrate. This works with varying degrees of success. The locals seem to accept his strange behavior. However, some people have realized that he is not human. Our Harry is looking for ways to keep his secret, and is willing to go to great lengths to do so.
In the meantime, he collects the vital parts of his spaceship. That's quite a job, because the debris and its mysterious cargo are scattered across the surrounding mountain area. No matter how deserted it seems, you are not completely alone there.

The role of a literally and figuratively unworldly alien is perfect for Alan Tudyk. His typical face lends itself perfectly to the assumed human form, but you always seem to be able to see a hint of his actual appearance.
The other roles are of course at the service of his story. Some, like the inexperienced and somewhat naive mayor Ben Hawthorne (Levi Fiehler, Code Black), may not turn out very well.
Others, such as the interaction between blustering and incompetent Sheriff Mike Thompson (Corey Reynolds, Criminal Minds) and his deputy Liv Baker (a hilarious role by Elizabeth Bowen, Family Law), guarantee laughs and vicarious embarrassment.
Over the course of the first season, the story picks up pace. The real reason for our unfortunate pilot's visit becomes clear. But his changing attitude towards the earthlings, which he initially looks down on, also becomes visible.
I personally thought the role of outsider Asta Twelvetrees (Sara Tomko, Sneaky Pete) lifted the series to a slightly higher level. Of all the characters, she seems the most human. It is also not without reason that she adopts a friendly attitude towards that other outsider, the new doctor.
Resident Alien is a fun series with a familiar message. People can be strange creatures sometimes, but in the long run you can love them. Whether that is enough to let them live is not always so obvious for aliens. In any case, I'm looking forward to the next season.![Video on youtube](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/T4J7QjGNTs4/maxresdefault.jpg)
