‘Ripper Street,’ the original British drama of which BBC has aired two seasons so far, was recently cancelled by the BBC. But now a streaming service by Amazon, Amazon Prime, has launched in the United Kingdom; Amazon immediately announced that they received the green light to produce a third season. The Victorian drama was cancelled in December, partially because of the drop in audience ratings for the second season. Amazon Prime also received the rights to stream the previous two seasons. It doesn’t need saying that this is great news for the many fans who were disappointed to see the series cancelled. The production of the third season will start in May.
This is the first time that a streaming service saves a drama series cancelled by a British channel. The delivery of the third season of ‘Ripper Street’ is part of Amazon’s plans to start realising original productions for Amazon Prime in the UK, as well as an attempt to compete with Netflix, the other popular streaming company.
