Scooby-Doo becomes a live-action series at Netflix

A classic title from Warner Bros. Scooby Doo! The Live-Action Series heads to Netflix with a retelling from one of the studio's top TV producers.

In a competitive situation with multiple bidders, the streamer Scooby-Doo! Got hold of The Live-Action Series, from Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, where the company is based.

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Scooby Doo! is written by Josh Appelbaum & Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bebop (2021)) and is based on characters created by Hanna-Barbera. It is a live-action update of the popular animated series.

In a tough TV market, the drama project attracted interest from top buyers and landed at Netflix with a top-tier script-to-series commitment, sources said. Representatives for Netflix and WBTV declined comment.

Scooby Doo! The Live-Action Series is produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman for Berlanti Productions and Appelbaum and Rosenberg along with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner under their Midnight Radio banner. Jonathan Gabay of Berlanti Productions and Adrienne Erickson of Midnight Radio are co-executive producers.

The deal comes after Netflix released Berlanti Productions/WBTV's latest series, Dead Boy Detectives, last week. The comic book adaptation landed on the streamer's daily Top 10 list of US series within 24 hours and remained in the Top 3 throughout the weekend.

On Netflix, Berlanti Productions and WBTV are also behind You, which is in its fifth and final season, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Further reboots were produced for Cartoon Network from 2010 to 2018. Boomerang spawned the original animated series Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? premiered on its streaming service in 2019 and later on HBO Max.

The franchise's latest spinoff, Mindy Kaling's HBO Max-Original Velma, recently wrapped its second season on the WBD streamer, which is also home to the Scooby-Doo! library.
