BBC series Sherlock returns to Netflix

BBC series Sherlock returns to Netflix

The acclaimed series Sherlock returns to Netflix. The BBC series brought the classic story of Sherlock Holmes to the present day.
This has of course been tried before, but the version by Mark Gatiss, who himself took on the role of Mycroft Holmes, turned out to be a bull's eye.

And in addition to the fantastic story, that was thanks to the two main characters. Sherlock Holmes and John Watson were played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (pictured). Two actors who have now achieved great status, but in 2010 had not yet conquered the top position.

The fact that the series came to an end after four seasons and thirteen episodes was due to the success of the two. The agendas were full, the costs of hiring them were skyrocketing and the relationship between the two had also cooled somewhat. It does not make the series any less good and from Monday April 1, all episodes can be seen again on Netflix.

Cumberbatch starred alongside Sherlock in the five-part BBC/HBO/VRT miniseries Parade's End and King Richard III in the second season of the BBC/PBS series The Hollow Crown. After Sherlock, Cumberbatch appeared in the Showtime/Sky Atlantic limited series Patrick Melrose. He appeared in Prime Video/BBC's Good Omens as the voice of Satan and can soon be seen starring in the limited series Eric for Netflix, which he also executive produces. Cumberbatch has also been cast in another limited series for Netflix: The 39 Steps, based on John Buchan's novel and Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film.

Freeman starred outside of Sherlock in the first season of the FX anthology series Fargo. He appeared in Crackle's series StartUp (2016) alongside Adam Brody and Ron Perlman. After ending Sherlock, Freeman appeared in the ITV miniseries A Confession. In 2020, the actor started FX/Sky One's Breeders, which he also created and executive produces. Daisy Haggard is his co-star in the dark comedy series that ended last year after four seasons. Freeman has appeared in the Peacock miniseries Angelyne, the BBC miniseries The Responder and most recently in Disney+'s Marvel's Secret Invasion.
