Sherlock Holmes (1984)

Cumberbatch comes very close, but still can't match Brett as Sherlock. He brought Doyle's stories and books to life before my eyes. That's how I imagined Holmes in my imagination, exactly like that. It's a shame that Brett died prematurely so that he was never able to finish the series he desperately wanted to make. So now I do it with the DVD series and 1 x a year Cumberbatch or 3x. And yes, I hear you shout and then Elemantry. Not even close, not even close, but fun.

Jeremy Brett is a genius in the role of Sherlock Holmes. He has studied the character Holmes excellently and then portrayed it superbly. Sherlock Holmes's life also has a wonderful parallel with Brett's real life. During the end of the series, Brett got really sick and the character Sherlock Holmes started to show more and more "flaws". You could tell from the body language, the facial expressions (and probably a lot of make-up) that he was no longer the jump in the field of the first season ..... Personally I find more depth and structure in the character of Holmes in Elementary are then in Cumberbatch's rendition of Holmes. Perhaps unfair comparison if a series is broadcast weekly and counts 22 episodes.
