CBC renews comedy series Son of a Critch for a third season

The Canadian comedy series Son of a Critch has been greenlit by CBC for a third season before its second season has fully aired.
According to CBC, the second season, which ends next week, is the most-watched English-Canadian comedy series and the most-watched program by 18-49 year olds.

The series is produced by Schitt's Creek's Andrew Barnsley and created by Mark Critch, who plays a fictionalized version of himself based on his award-winning memoir, with writer Tim McAuliffe (The Office).

Son of a Critch

The series tells the story of eleven-year-old Mark coming of age in St. John's, Newfoundland in the 1980s, a boy much older than his eleven years old on the inside - he uses comedy and self-deprecating humor to win friends and connect with the small collection of people in his limited world.

Filming on the third season begins this summer in Newfoundland.

"I'm honored that such talented people are bringing my life story to the screen," Critch said. "It's a joy to come to work every day. I'm so glad their hard work is being recognised."

The series is produced by Critch, McAuliffe, Barnsley and Allan Hawco. Renuka Jeyapalan, Perry Chafe and Anita Kapila serve as co-producers. Son of a Critch is produced by Project 10 Productions and Take the Shot Productions in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television. Lionsgate handles worldwide distribution rights outside of Canada.
