The second season of Squid Game premieres on December 26th, bringing fans back to the twisted competition at the heart of the series. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk is excited about what's to come. "I'm busy, but I'll make sure it's worth the wait," Hwang told Netflix in 2023.
The first season of Squid Game introduced fans to the deadly game of the K-drama, forcing citizens to gamble with their lives. In return, they could win a life-changing cash prize — or face dire consequences. Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is the protagonist of Squid Game, and the second season will continue after Gi-hun's shocking decisions in the finale of the first season.
"The cast and crew are really putting their heart and soul into filming the second season," executive producer Kim Ji-yeon told Netflix in December. "I hope you'll stay tuned and keep supporting us!"
'Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and end their cruel sport,' reads the official synopsis of season 2. 'With his fortune to fund his quest, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious place: look for the man in a suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally pay off, the path to taking down the organization turns out to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he must enter it once again.'
It has been confirmed that some familiar faces will return to the Squid Game cast, including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun. Newcomers Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an will all appear in Squid Game season two as an ensemble of colorful new characters.
Hold onto your jumpsuit — more Squid Game is on the way. Director Hwang confirms that season three will arrive in 2025 and will be the final season of the series.
