The season kicks off with two episodes on Thursday, October 24 on Paramount+ in the US and internationally. After the first episode, new episodes of the ten-episode season will appear on the streamer every Thursday until the finale on Thursday, December 19.
During the Star Trek panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount+ also revealed two first photos of the new season, which you can view above and at the bottom of this news story.
The fact that this season of Star Trek: Lower Decks will be the last was loudly booed by the audience. In the audience were cast members Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Jerry O'Connell, among others, along with executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Mike McMahan.
In season five of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing 'space holes' - rifts in space that are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Space hole duty is easy for Junior Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford... if they weren't also dealing with an Orion War, angry Klingons, diplomatic disasters, murder mysteries and scariest of all: their own career aspirations. The upcoming season on Paramount+ is a celebration of this underdog crew that's dangerously close to being promoted from the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.
The animated comedy series focuses on the support crew on one of Starfleet's least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, and also features the voices of Eugene Cordero, Dawnn Lewis, Fred Tatasciore and Gillian Vigman.
Star Trek: Lower Decks is produced by CBC Studio's animation arm, Eye Animation Productions; and Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Executive producers are Kurtzman, McMahan, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Titmouse, the Emmy-winning independent animation production company, serves as the animation studio for the series.
The series airs exclusively on Paramount+ in the US and Latin America and is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
The Star Trek franchise on Paramount+ also includes the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the upcoming original film Star Trek: Section 31 starring Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh and the new original series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy , which will go into production later this year. All seasons of the original series Star Trek: Picard, starring Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, are also available to stream.
