Four old acquaintances return in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

A quartet of actors from Star Trek series are joining the cast of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy for Paramount+.

During the Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman from Star Trek: Discovery, along with Robert Picardo from Star Trek: Voyager, are joining the already star-studded ensemble of the latest installment .

They join previously announced cast Holly Hunter, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, Zoë Steiner and Paul Giamatti. Gina Yashere will be seen in a recurring role.



Notaro and Picardo (photo) become regular actors and reprise their roles as Jett Reno and The Doctor. Fehr and Wiseman join as guest actors, reprising their roles as Admiral Vance and Sylvia Tilly.

During the Star Trek Universe panel, executive producer Alex Kurtzman explained that the new series will answer "who are the captains before they become captains, and what happens if they don't become captains?"

The series begins production next month and will introduce viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become a Starfleet officer as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the academy and the Federation itself.

Hunter, Kurtzman explains, will play the principal of the school.

The streamer in March gave a series order to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, a project from Alex Kurtzman's Secret Hideout, Roddenberry Entertainment and CBS Studios that was reported to have been in development since last year.

Kurtzman and Noga Landau serve as co-showrunners and produce the series along with executive producers Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber. The first episode of the series was written by Gaia Violo.
