Stargate SG-1 is een Amerikaanse sciencefictionserie van de zender Syfy (voorheen Showtime). De serie ging in première op 28 juli 1997.
De serie gaat verder waar de Stargate ophield. In de serie draait het grotendeels om militaire teams die met behulp van een apparaat van buitenaardse oorsprong, genaamd de Stargate, het heelal verkennen. Het gehele Stargate-programma is in handen van de Amerikaanse luchtmacht en wordt strikt geheimgehouden.

I actually (finally) have it on my schedule, but I still hesitate to start. The reason ? I first thought I'd watch the original movie on which the series is based, and that's what I did. To my surprise, the film was very weak to the end, even just plain bad. Maybe the real sci-fi aficionados are anything but critical viewers, I don't know, but as far as the movie is concerned, I wouldn't even give it 5 out of 10, even because it was in color. As far as I'm concerned, there is no series that deserves a 10 anyway (and rightly so), but starting to watch a series that is based on a bad movie really holds me back a bit.

SG1 was truly one of the best SF series, just like Star Trek TNG and Babylon 5, which is still number one for me. But I do long for SG1 again and hopefully they will come up with a sequel or a remake soon. That would be great. Furthermore, "McGuyver" Richard Dean Anderson was of course the main actor and his quirky sense of humor was a pleasure to watch. Just a great exciting series that I hope will come back again.
