Apple TV+ revealed more about the series in the press release below:

“Apple TV+ has unveiled a first look at Sugar, the new eight-episode drama starring and executive produced by Colin Farrell, and announced that the series will debut worldwide with the first three episodes on Friday, April 5, 2024 on Apple TV+, followed by a new episode every Friday.

Sugar is a contemporary, unique take on one of the most popular and important genres in literary, film and television history: the story of the private detective. The Academy Award-nominated Farrell stars as John Sugar, an American private investigator hot on the heels of the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of legendary Hollywood producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar tries to determine what happened to Olivia, he also uncovers Siegel family secrets; some very recently, others long buried.

The series also stars Kirby (Barry), Amy Ryan (Only Murders in the Building), James Cromwell (The Young Pope), Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), Dennis Boutsikaris (Better Call Saul), Nate Corddry (For All Mankind) , Sydney Chandler (Pistol) and Alex Hernandez (The Peripheral).

Sugar was created by Mark Protosevich who also produces it. Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg are executive producers for Genre Films. This is their second series for Apple TV+ under Kinberg's overall deal after Invasion. Sam Catlin, Scott Greenberg and Chip Vucelich also serve as executive producers. The series is directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardener), who also serves as executive producer, and Adam Arkin (Fargo).
