Colin Farrell searches for a missing girl in the underbelly of Los Angeles in Sugar trailer

The trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ series Sugar features Colin Farrell as a private investigator searching for a missing girl in Los Angeles.
Sugar is an upcoming series about a man named John Sugar, played by Colin Farrell, a private detective who investigates the questionable disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the granddaughter of a legendary Hollywood producer.

In addition to Farrell, the series stars Nate Corddry, Massi Furlan, Bernardo Badillo, Sydney Chandler and Darwin Shaw.

Sugar

The trailer opens with John Sugar peacefully driving through Los Angeles with his dog. Quickly the scene transitions to showing Sugar in a bloody fight with several people while talking about being a good person. The Sugar trailer continues to descend into chaos to the tune of the hit California Dreamin' as Farrell's character delves further into a complex case.

Farrell's role in Sugar follows The Banshees of Inisherin, for which he just received an Oscar nomination. In that film he played a completely different role than in Sugar, because in contrast to his bumbling Pádraic, John Sugar is a tough thriller hero. Sugar falls outside of Farrell's typical oeuvre, which lately includes films like The Batman, Thirteen Lives and After Yang.

Sugar was created by Mark Protosevich, who is making his television debut. Protosevich has written screenplays for feature films, including I Am Legend and the remake of Oldboy in 2013. The creator is also one of the writers of Sugar, alongside Sam Catlin, Donald Joh and David Rosen. The episodes of Sugar are directed by Fernando Meirelles and Adam Arkin.

Judging from the trailer, Sugar promises action and mystery. Even before John Sugar is catapulted into the Olivia Siegel case, it appears he is a private investigator well versed in clashes with violent people. Hopefully the combination of these elements creates interesting dramatic tensions in Sugar.

Sugar premieres on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 5 and runs for eight episodes until May 17.

In the title, the word abdomen should be changed to underworld.

Amended. The original article said "the underbelly of LA", that's why.
