Premiere date and trailer released for Apple TV+'s Sunny

Rashida Jones becomes entangled with a robot in an attempt to solve her family's mysterious disappearance in Sunny.

Apple TV+ has dropped the first trailer for the darkly comedic drama starring and producing Jones. The 10-episode mystery thriller kicks off with the first two episodes on Wednesday, July 10, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through September 4.

Created by Katie Robbins, Sunny is based on the book Dark Manual by Japanese award-winning Irish writer Colin O'Sullivan. Jones stars as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan whose life is turned upside down when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash.

As 'consolation' she is given Sunny, one of a new class of household robots made by her husband's electronics company. Although Suzie is initially dismissive of Sunny's attempts to fill the void in her life, they gradually develop an unexpected friendship. Together they discover the dark truth about what really happened to Suzie's family and become dangerously entangled in a world Suzie never knew existed.

Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, YOU, annie the clumsy and Jun Kunimura also star.

Sunny is produced for Apple TV+ by A24 and is written and produced by Robbins, who also serves as showrunner, through her company Babka Pictures. A24 and Jones are also executive producers. Lucy Tcherniak directs and directs.

Sunny marks the second collaboration between Apple, A24 and Jones following the global premiere of Sofia Coppola's critically acclaimed film On the Rocks. Jones also recently starred in Apple's hit series Silo, a series based on Hugh Howey's New York Times bestselling trilogy of dystopian novels.
