The series, which starts in October, is based on the cult novel by C.J. Skuse. Starz came on board as US co-producer earlier this year and See-Saw Films, maker of Power of the Dog, is producing alongside its new Patrick Walters-led label Fanboy.
Purnell is one of today's hottest television talents, after impressing as Jackie Taylor in Paramount+'s Yellowjackets and then helming Prime Video's Fallout series adaptation based on the video game. She is joined by Nicôle Lecky who plays Julia, Jon Pointing as Craig, Calam Lynch as AJ and Leah Harvey as Marina. Jeremy Swift plays Norman and Dustin Demri-Burns plays Jeff.
Sweetpea from Sky and Starz will be released on Thursday, October 10. The six-part series is produced by See-Saw Films and Fanboy in collaboration with Sky Studios. Swain co-writes with Krissie Ducker, Laura Jayne Tunbridge and Selina Lim.
Executive producers are Purnell, director Ella Jones, Swain, Walters, Helen Gregory, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman. Zorana Piggott is the series producer. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution is handling international sales of the series on behalf of Sky Studios.
