The Bear - Season 3

A unique series with an amazing cast, good story, emotion, some chaos, and which can also make you quite hungry. An absolute must see!
Nowadays, there is often one or more years between seasons of a series. Think of Stranger Things that started in 2016 and will (probably) end in 2025 with the fifth season (if they don't cut that season up again). This is clearly not the case with The Bear; a new season has been launched every June in recent years. This consistency is also in the series itself; in my opinion, it is a series of exceptionally high caliber. The third season consists of ten episodes, each lasting between 28 and 44 minutes.

The Bear is about Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White, Shameless) who takes over his deceased brother's restaurant and tries to make it a success. In season one, the restaurant was mostly a street food restaurant with popular sandwiches. During season two, it was transformed into a fine dining restaurant, selling sandwiches during the day. And in season three, the luxury restaurant is running at full speed.

The third season is also partly an aftermath of what happened in the last episode of season two. Carmy was locked up in the cold room and was mentally collapsing. This was partly due to demons from his past that Carmy is clearly still struggling with, which is further explored. He tries to deal with this well, but in doing so he actually pushes people further away. All the while communication being key in keeping a fine dining restaurant running. In addition, we are waiting to see what the first official reviewer of the restaurant thinks.

Carmy is of course not alone and works together with many enthusiastic colleagues, including his business partner Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri, Big Mouth) and his "cousin" Richard "Richie" Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Girls) who is not actually his cousin at all. The interactions between the cast members is a pure pleasure to watch. They constantly criticize each other, have good dialogues and there is clearly chemistry. I don't really understand that the genre is comedy, since there is also a good dose of drama in it.

The series comes across as very raw and natural. The way of filming is very impressive and the mental state of the characters is also clearly reflected in the images. Sometimes it is complete chaos, and sometimes there are quiet and emotionally deep moments. For example, there is a quiet episode about Tina's past (Liza Colon-Zayas, In Treatment), which was very powerful in my opinion, even though that episode is largely separate from the overarching story. There is never a demarcated story in a season, but it consists of the continuous development of the characters and the construction of the restaurant The Bear. I would also say about this series that a lot happens, but on the other hand not that much happens.

In my opinion, it is deserved that the series is so well received

I am not the only one who praises The Bear, as critics have also been very positive. In the meantime, the series has already won ten Emmy's. For 2024, The Bear is nominated for 23 Emmy's, a record number in the comedy category. In my opinion, it is deserved that the series is so well received. Incidentally, it is already certain that there will be a fourth season, since seasons three and four were filmed at the same time. I do hope that there will not be too many seasons and that the story will be completed in a fifth season at the latest to maintain the current strength.

In short: The Bear season three is excellent again. It has a compelling storyline that the talented cast knows how to portray well. The Bear is unique in its kind and continues to come up with unexpected things. I can't wait for the next season.

Based on the above, the third season of The Bear gets a well-deserved 9.5.
