The Chelsea Detective returns for a third season

The Chelsea Detective returns for more detective work on the glamorous streets of West London.

Acorn TV and Germany's ZDF have ordered a third season of the mystery drama series set in the glamorous streets of Chelsea. Adrian Scarborough and Vanessa Emme reprise their roles as Detective Inspector Max Arnold and Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh, respectively. A first look is below.

Filming has begun in and around London for four feature-length episodes as the duo investigate dark crimes such as the tragic death of a 2000s pop star, the impenetrable world of the US Embassy, the splendor of Kew Gardens, a classical music academy and a climate scientist found dead in a supercar.

Also new is that Max will undergo relationship therapy with his estranged wife Astrid (Anamaria Marinca) and that Layla will have to get used to life in London while her partner Jon lives in Exeter.

Regular actors Sophie Stone, Lucy Phelps and Peter Bankolé all return, along with Max's aunt Olivia, played by Frances Barber.

The series comes from Acorn TV's Acorn Media Enterprises, ZDF and Clarkson's Farm maker Expectation, which has BBC Studios as an investor. It was created and produced by Expectation co-founder Peter Fincham.

Ella Kelly is also executive producer. Fincham, Glen Laker, Debbie Oates and Ian Kershaw and Nicola Wilson are the writers. Lauriel Martin is the producer and Jennie Darnell and Richard Signy are the directors.

“Chelsea is an endlessly fascinating place and Season 3 includes some of the most surprising stories we’ve told and introduces some great guest characters,” said Fincham.

Acorn, described by NPR as “Netflix for the Anglophile,” has rights in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand among others. ZDF will play it in Germany, and BBC Studios has international sales rights elsewhere.
