For the fifth season of The Crown, the cast will be completely renewed. This is the third time for the cast to change. In the first two seasons, Queen Elizabeth II was portrayed by Claire Foy (Wolf Hall). It was up to Olivia Colman (Broadchurch) in the third and fourth season of the series. For the fifth season, Imelda Staunton (Trying) will portray the Queen.
This month, production on the fifth season of The Crown began. This also meant that Imelda Staunton already got to try some of the costumes on set. Netflix has shared the first image of Stauton in full character as Queen Elizabeth II.

The series was supposed to end with the fifth season, but back in July 2020, a sixth season was announced. The cast is switched every two seasons, so this would also mean that Staunton will return for the sixth season.
