The teaser reveals that season three will be released this fall and features a series of short, revealing scenes. Todd Penn (Whitford, pictured) is introduced as he is led into an office and embraces his wife, confirming that Grace is indeed the new president of the United States — a development that was hinted at in the shocking season two finale, in which Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) learned that President Rayburn (Michael McKean) had died after an outburst over his vice president, Grace, allegedly being involved in a terrorist attack.
The teaser shows Kate in action, running with her phone to her ear, presumably moments after that dramatic revelation. Another striking scene shows Kate and Todd together in a pool, both on guard, suggesting a strained relationship. It’s also clear that Kate’s more formal “vice president look” from season two is gone, at least in the footage shown so far. The teaser ends playfully, with Kate and the Penns in a living room sipping cocktails, before Todd seems to lighten the air with the ironic question, “How was everyone’s day at the office?”
The Diplomat (US) has also been renewed for a fourth season, underscoring Netflix’s confidence in the political thriller. Debora Cahn, who created the series, will remain as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Keri Russell and Alex Graves, among others.
The Diplomat (US) also features Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh, Celia Imrie, Nana Mensah and Miguel Sandoval. Season three promises to continue the sharp dialogue, political intrigue and personal dramas on a global scale — with an even more impressive cast.
