Lead role for Claire Danes in The Essex Serpent

Claire Danes (Homeland) will portray the lead character in Apple TV+'s The Essex Serpent. Previously, Keira Knightley (Neverland) was cast for the portrayal of this character.The Essex Serpent revolves around the widow Cora. After she's saved from her violent marriage, she moves to a small town in Essex. In part due to the fact that she is intrigued by the local superstition of the return of a mythical creature.

Previously, Keira Knightley (Neverland) was set to portray the role. She withdrew due to family circumstances. Apple TV+ has now revealed that Claire Danes (Homeland) is going to portray Cora instead. Clio Barnard will direct the series and Anna Symon (Deep Water) has written the story.
