The Good Doctor is one of the most popular series of recent years. Netflix has managed to acquire the rights to this hospital series, which will be released on the streaming service this month.
This means that after, among others, New Amsterdam (2018) and House M.D. another major hospital series will be on Netflix. The series started in 2017 and several seasons will be available on Monday, April 22. It remains to be seen how many seasons will be released at once.
The Good Doctor centres on Shaun Murphy (Highmore). He is a young and very successful surgeon, but he has autism and savant syndrome. It is therefore a big challenge when he leaves a quiet village to work in a prestigious department of a large hospital.
In addition to Highmore, the cast includes Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neil Menendez, Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Browne, Chuku Modu as Dr. Jared Kalu, Beau Garrett as Jessica Preston, Irene Keng as Dr. Elle McLean, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman and Tamlyn Tomita as Allegra Aoki.
In August 2022, it was reported that there were plans for a spin-off titled The Good Lawyer. It was introduced as a backdoor pilot in the sixth season of The Good Doctor. ABC announced a backdoor pilot order for the spinoff starring Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman. In November 2023, ABC announced it would not be moving forward with the spin-off due to the writers' and actors' strikes the previous year.
