The Idol - Season 1
A popular singer is working on her comeback in The Idol. Her life is largely controlled by her entourage and she rebels against it. After the first episode of The Idol aired, the response was nothing to be proud of. The high expectations that this series had evoked from the makers of Euphoria were certainly not met. The question then is whether people were not too hasty with these conclusions?
I have to admit that the first episode came across as chaotic at times and the volume of explicit sex was too much for some viewers. Still, you have to nuance all this a bit because this story takes place in the music world and for someone who has been active in that world for more than twenty years, what we saw in that first episode certainly doesn't come as a surprise. However, this is fiction and then one sometimes dares to exaggerate and it was not immediately necessary to fill the first episode with so much sex.
Various rumors surrounding The Idol's screenplay say that the series would be inspired by the career of Britney Spears. Perhaps its history gave the creators the idea, but what you get to see in The Idol is rife in the music world. Many artists are put under pressure by managers, record executives and promoters and there is little choice for them, especially at the beginning of their career. It is not for nothing that great artists have been taking matters into their own hands for years in order to decide for themselves when they record a CD or go on tour.
If you look at it from this angle, the scenario of The Idol is 'right to the point'. A fallen singer is working on her comeback and is pressured by her entourage. The lady is not averse to drugs and sex and then runs into a person who leads a kind of cult with related artistic souls. Her entire entourage is shocked and wants nothing more than to pull her away from the man's influence.
It seems that they succeed in getting their pupil back on the right path. The last episode of The Idol is therefore the biggest surprise for the viewer. The events in that final episode are simply sublime and completely unexpected. However, the chance that The Idol will get a second season is as good as non-existent. The story leaves only a tiny opening at the end for a possible second season.
