Jeffrey Wright cast in the second season of The Last of Us

Once again, a member of the voice cast of the video game The Last of Us is joining the HBO film adaptation.

Jeffrey Wright (pictured below) has been cast in season two as Isaac, the silent, powerful leader of a large militia group, known in the video game as the Washington Liberation Front, which sought freedom but has instead become trapped in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.

The actor lent his voice to the same character in the game The Last of Us Part II.



The Last of Us is based on the Naughty Dog video game and takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a fourteen-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job quickly becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both have to cross the US and rely on each other for survival.

Pascal and Ramsey reprise their roles in season two. In addition to Wright, they are joined by Gabriel Luna, Kaitlyn Dever, Young Manzino, Isabela Merced and Catherine O'Hara.

Wright is not the first voice actor from The Last Of Us to participate in the live-action series. Several voice actors were cast in supporting roles in the first season, including Troy Baker, who voices Joel, and Ashley Johnson, who voices Ellie. Wright is the second actor to reprise his own voice role, after Merle Dandridge did the same for her character Marlene in the first season.

Season two is currently in production. It's expected to debut on HBO sometime in 2025. It comes from Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

Wright is known for his role as Bernard Lowe in HBO's dystopian science fiction series Westworld. He also starred in HBO's Boardwalk Empire and is the voice of The Watcher in Marvel's What If...? Wright played the role of Jim Gordon in the DC film The Batman and Felix Leiter in the 007 film No Time to Die.
