"Prepare yourselves." So says a sword-wielding Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) to Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and her other companions in the just-released teaser trailer for season two of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Season two of the J.R.R. Tolkien film adaptation is coming on Thursday, August 29th and "get ready" might be an understatement.
One word: Sauron. Another word: Unleashed.
Much grimmer and darker than most of the first season, the just-released look at season two also provides a brief look at the Charlie Vicker-portrayed Dark Tower of the master of Mordor.
There are also some new rings and their creation on display, and a hellish explosion that could rival the great explosion of Mount Doom in the first season. Or, as Khazad-dûm Prince Durin (Owain Arthur) puts it in the minute-long teaser: "an evil, ancient and powerful has returned" - as you can see at the bottom of this news item.
In addition to the teaser trailer with a look at the fates of elves and dwarves, orcs and humans, wizards and Harfoots, Prime Video also has a short behind-the-scenes video and a poster for The Lord of the Rings: The Showing Rings of Power season two.
If you had any doubts about whether Vicker's evil Sauron would be the focus of the upcoming season, this poster should put an end to that.
J.D.'s epic series opened with much fanfare. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premiered on Prime Video on September 1, 2022 with two premiere episodes, and ran until October 24 of that year. After a huge battle for Middle-Earth in the previous episodes, the finale shockingly revealed that Sauron had been hiding in plain sight the entire time.
The first season of Rings of Power, a major release from the Jennifer Salke-run streamer, cost about $700 million, if you include the cost of acquiring the rights from J.R.R.'s estate. Tolkien.
The first season, which consisted of eight episodes and included an altercation between Neil Gaiman and Elon Musk, was watched by more than 100 million viewers worldwide in the last week of 2022, according to Amazon. Trivial Pursuit moment: Those ratings made the series the most-watched ever at the time on the Jeff Bezos-founded steamboat.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season two is produced by showrunners Payne and McKay.
Co-executive producers of the series are Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill and Gennifer Hutchison, along with co-executive producer and director Charlotte Brändström.
Kate Hazell and Helen Shang also produce, with co-producers Clare Buxton, Andrew Lee, Glenise Mullins and Matthew Penry-Davey. Season two of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power also stars Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper among its directors.
