FX series The Old Man halts production for season two due to writers' strike

Filming on the second season of FX drama series The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges, has been suspended.

Last Monday, the crew of the series, produced by 20th Television, was informed that it had decided to end the day's filming, which concluded episode 204.

According to sources, the plan was to shoot through episode 205, as five scripts for season two were finished before the writers' strike began on June 2. However, the last surviving script had to be rewritten, so production is halted for the time being. Production will resume when the WGA strike is over.

The set of the series in Santa Clarita was discontinued, causing production to be slightly delayed last Thursday. Accompanied by a producer, Bridges crossed the strike that day in a van.

Based on Thomas Perry's bestseller, The Old Man also stars John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman, Alia Shawkat, E.J. Bonilla, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Bill Heck, Leem Lubany and Pej Vahdat.

The series follows Dan Chase (Bridges) who ran away from the CIA decades ago and has since lived a life off the beaten track. When a killer arrives and tries to take down Chase, the old cop learns he must come to terms with his past to secure his future.

Originating from Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, The Old Man launched as the most-watched cable series premiere since January 2021, beating sixty other premium and basic cable dramas, comedies and limited series.

The series is produced by Warren Littlefield, Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Levine, Bridges, David Schiff and Jon Watts, who also directed the first two episodes. The series is produced by 20th Television in association with The Littlefield Company.
