The Outlaws - Season 2

Tension with a British wink ensures that The Outlaws can be considered one of the better series of its time.

In The Outlaws, seven people come together during community service who wouldn't normally meet. Rani (Rhianne Barreto, Hanna) is a smart girl who can go to Oxford. Unfortunately, she can't resist stealing things from stores. Christian (Gamba Cole, Guerrilla) is associated with dealing drugs. However, something else appears to be going on. John (Darren Boyd, Fortitude) has a very short fuse and it doesn't get any better when his business doesn't thrive. Myrna (Clare Perkins, The Wheel Of Time) is a leftist rebel who has made a big mistake in all her willingness to act. Lady Gabriella (Eleanor Tomlinson, Poldark) lives off her wealthy father, her role as an influencer and her large following. Partly due to alcohol and drugs, she quickly becomes verbally and physically aggressive. The old Frank (Christopher Walken, Severance) manipulates that it is a pleasure. Even his family suffers. The gangly and clumsy lawyer Greg (Stephen Merchant, The Office UK) has a cupboard full of secrets. Wannabe policewoman Diane (Jessica Gunning, Fortitude) is quite easily influenced. She is tasked with guarding the six so that they perform their community service.

The result is that a mix of toxic substances has been brought together. The seven become part of the world of drug crime and violence. Unusual friendships develop. The police are on their heels. An important and violent leader of a drug gang threatens them, their family and friends. All these events mean that the momentum is good. Still, it manages to keep the story manageable. Despite the fact that there are exciting moments, it never gets too exciting. That's because British humor is never far away. Unusual plot twists and inventive solutions to keep the story going do the rest. Up to and including the end, one manages to come up with unexpected events.

The Outlaws uses humor to counterbalance the violence and tense situations. That works very well in both seasons of this series.

The Outlaws brings together a group of people who seem to be attuned to each other in everything. The enthusiasm splashes off the screen. The acting is at a high level and it feels like the actors get along both on and off the screen. Furthermore, the characters of the protagonists develop more and more. Nice to see how outward appearance is something different from the actual story behind that person. In fact, everyone undergoes some kind of transformation. This is an additional plus for this series.

Personally, I like British humor without it being too bland. The Outlaws is not a humorous series. It uses humor to counterbalance the violence and tense situations. That works very well in both seasons of this series. The second season of The Outlaws, therefore, receives a nice and well-deserved score. Just like the first season, by the way. Wonderful series!
