The London-set series centers on a young woman pursued by shadowy paranormal adversaries while grappling with extraordinary abilities of her own. The Rook is not necessarily bad, but above all it is not very memorable. This is best illustrated by Emma Greenwell. The woman who plays Myfanwy Thomas is boringness incarnate. Further investigation revealed that she had been in one of my favorite series for over thirty episodes - Shameless, jeweetzelluf! - but that has left anything but an indelible impression. On the contrary, it completely escaped me. Apparently she was also on The Path almost forty times, while watching The Rook, it never produced a know-her-not-anywhere moment. Greenwell simply does not have that compelling presence that the actors behind Saga, Marcella and Sarah Lund, for example, did and I fear that Myfanwy Thomas will not break this spell either. However, it is too easy to put all the boringness in Greenwell's shoes. There are more factors that contribute to the fact that you probably won't be blown away by this latest Starz Original. The story is not very original. An agent - yes, Myfanwy turns out to be part of the strong arm - who suffers from quite persistent amnesia, where have we seen that before? Well, in Absentia, Blindspot and Marcella for example. Actually, The Rook is just a sort of The Bourne Identity, but with a supernatural touch. And there is immediately the next pain point: I rarely saw a series about super powers with so disappointingly few super powers in it. Let's just say that - judging by the lack of significant special effects - the local green screen landlord probably did not have a top year. Add to this that the cinematography is not sexy and Barry Atsma - with a modest supporting role as a bad guy - proves that his unparalleled performance in Bad Banks was just an outlier and you have a series that probably won't leave a crushing impression on most of us. . You can watch it, but if you're short on time I'd rather pull American Gods, The Missing or Magic City from the Starz library. Perhaps fans of (British) police dramas should wait for the next one from Starz's kitchen: Dublin Murders.

Barry Atsma also has a role. Seems like an interesting series with a lot of good actors.

One to quickly forget as far as I'm concerned, although many will disagree judging by the score of this series.
