SkyShowtime unveils full trailer for The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Today SkyShowtime released the full trailer for the new SkyShowtime Original Series The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

The six-part drama series, based on the international bestseller by Heather Morris, tells the moving and true story of Lali and Gita Sokolov, who found each other in the Auschwitz concentration camp during the horrors of the Holocaust in World War II.

The trailer offers a fascinating first look at this compelling miniseries.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is the story of one man, Lali (Jonah Hauer-King), a Slovak Jew, who was deported to Auschwitz in 1942. The impressive trailer shows the first images of the elderly Lali (Harvey Keitel) sharing his story and experiences in Auschwitz with writer Heather Morris (Melanie Lynskey).

As he looks back on his past, a moving story of love and courage unfolds. The younger Lali (Jonah Hauer-King) meets Gita (Anna Próchniak) and a heartbreaking love story ensues amid the horrors of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Shortly after his arrival, Lali was appointed one of the Tätowierers (tattoo artists), tasked with tattooing identification numbers on the arms of fellow prisoners. One of those fellow prisoners is Gita (Anna Próchniak). While he tattoos her prisoner number on her arm, they immediately fall in love and so begins a courageous and unforgettable story about a love that endures all horrors.

Under constant surveillance by the irascible Nazi and SS officer Stefan Baretzki (Jonas Nay), Lali and Gita are determined to keep each other alive.

About sixty years later, Lali (Keitel), who is now in her eighties, meets the ambitious writer Heather Morris (Lynskey). Recently widowed, Lali finds the courage to share his story with the world. By telling Heather his past, Lali is finally confronted with the traumatic images from his youth and relives his love for that horrible place.

“The story of Mom and Dad has it all: romance, love, survival and hope, all set against a backdrop of some of the worst conditions ever known.”
Gary Sokolov, son of Lali and Gita Sokolov.

The series' closing credits song, Love Will Survive, was sung by none other than Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award-winning Barbra Streisand and composed by two-time Oscar winner Hans Zimmer, in collaboration with multiple Emmy nominee Kara Talve and Grammy winner Walter Afanasieff. The lyrics were written by Grammy and Golden Globe nominee Charlie Midnight.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is produced by Claire Mundell's Synchronicity Films in association with Sky Studios and directed by Tali Shalom-Ezer. Jacquelin Perske is executive producer and head writer alongside episode writers Evan Placey (Associate Producer) and Gabbie Asher. Serena Thompson is an executive producer at Sky Studios.
