The Upshaws has been renewed for a fourth season/sixth part by Netflix

Netflix has announced another new season of the popular comedy series The Upshaws.

The working-class comedy series by Regina Hicks and Wanda Sykes has been renewed for a fourth season of ten episodes.

After the ten-episode first season, seasons two and three of The Upshaws were released in two parts - of eight and six episodes respectively - so the renewal is for part six of the series, as Netflix officially calls it.

Production on the new 10-episode season, which will be released all at once, will begin next year. The six-episode part five of The Upshaws (second half of season three) will be available to stream in the spring of 2024.

Flying a bit under the radar, The Upshaws has been a strong player for Netflix in a genre sitcom that has been a challenge for streamers. With the renewal, The Upshaws, like The Ranch, is the second-longest-running original comedy series on Netflix in terms of number of seasons, just behind Fuller House, which lasted five seasons. In number of episodes, The Upshaws (50) is number 3 behind The Ranch (80) and Fuller House (75).

In The Upshaws, Bennie Upshaw (Mike Epps), the head of a working-class black family in Indianapolis, is a charming, well-meaning mechanic and lifelong mess who is just doing his best to get up and provide for his family - wife Regina (Kim Fields) , their two young daughters (Khali Spraggins, Journey Christine) and firstborn son (Jermelle Simon), the teenage son (Diamond Lyons) he fathered with another woman (Gabrielle Dennis) - and his sardonic sister-in-law (Wanda Sykes), all without a blueprint for success. But the Upshaws are determined to make it work together.

In this next installment, the Upshaws continue to deal with life's ups and downs, including new jobs, bigger dreams, health issues, and some big life surprises, but they still hold on with the love that comes with family.

Hicks and Sykes serve as showrunners on the series, which they executive produce along with Epps, Page Hurwitz, Niles Kirchner, Annie Levine, Jon Emerson and Mark Alton Brown.
