AMC has now released a teaser for The Walking Dead: Dead City that reveals how Maggie and Negan get to New York City.
In the teaser, we see Maggie and Negan on a boat sailing through Walker-infested waters to Manhattan. Other details in the teaser include a new character Negan travels with, and Negan's face on a wanted poster. You can watch the new teaser at the bottom of this news item.
The Walking Dead finale episode saw Maggie accept Negan's redemption, but tell him she could never forgive him for killing Glenn in the seventh season. Negan was last seen nodding to Daryl before walking away, presumably to settle in one of the communities with his wife Annie. Maggie and Negan's final interaction indicates that Maggie would never recruit Negan to help save Hershel unless it was absolutely necessary.
The character holding Negan's wanted poster in The Walking Dead: Dead City teaser appears to be Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles), a newcomer who appears to be on the hunt for Negan. This indicates that some New Yorkers may already know who Negan is, which would explain why Maggie decides to take him to Manhattan. Perhaps The Croat and Negan have an unexplored history together that will explain why he decided to capture Hershel and what he really wants.
While Morgan has shared that Maggie and Negan's relationship won't be smooth sailing, the partnership means they both have an important part to play in the rescue mission. Negan sets out to prove to Maggie that he has changed by saving Hershel's life. Still, there's plenty of mystery surrounding The Walking Dead: Dead City that probably won't be cleared up until the series premieres in June.
