Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux accidentally overthrow Nixon's presidency in the full official trailer for HBO's The White House Plumbers. The official trailer for The White House Plumbers explores the incredible true events that brought down a presidency. From the producers of Veep and Succession, the HBO limited series tells the story of how President Richard Nixon's political saboteurs, Howard Hunt and Gordon Liddy, accidentally overthrew the presidency they passionately tried to protect.
The White House Plumbers stars Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux, both of whom previously starred in the acclaimed HBO series True Detective (season one) and The Leftovers.
The trailer follows Harrelson and Theroux as two political operatives who mastermind the Watergate burglary that ultimately brings down Nixon's presidency, and their families. The trailer also stars Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) as Hunt's wife Dorothy, Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient) as White House Counsel John Dean, Judy Greer (Reboot) as Liddy's wife Frances, Ike Barinholtz (The Afterparty) as political operative Jeb Magruder, Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men) as Hunt's daughter Kevan, and Kathleen Turner (The Kominsky Method) as Washington lobbyist Dita Beard.
The trailer for The White House Plumbers begins around the year 1971 when former CIA and FBI agents Hunt and Liddy are hired by the Nixon White House to investigate the Pentagon Papers leak. This led to the creation of the titular group to prevent the leakage of classified information. The unlikely duo eventually end up with the president's reelection committee and plot several questionable covert operations to ensure Nixon wins reelection, including posting surveillance footage at the offices of the Democratic National Committee in the Watergate complex.
Based on both public records and the 2007 book Integrity, The White House Plumbers explores the incredible but lesser-known series of true events behind one of the most infamous political crimes in American history. The first teaser trailer for The White House Plumbers showed Hunt and Liddy being recruited as covert agents to wiretap the Watergate hotel. Now the full official trailer shows off a lot more of what the series has in store when it premieres on HBO on Monday, May 1, including the fact that "No names have been changed to protect the innocent, as nearly everyone has been found guilty.
