With His Dark Materials, The Mandalorian and Carnival Row, it has been a great year for the seasoned fantasy fetishist so far and Netflix is also trying to quickly hook up its wagon with The Witcher. Tries, because despite the presence of the necessary elves, wizards, shapeshifters and reared dwarfs, it actually cannot match its predecessors for a moment. Let alone Game Of Thrones. Even the forced flashing of the necessary boobies cannot change that. It is an almost schizophrenic series that sometimes feels like a kitschy musical, sometimes like an over-dramatized play where they have put a camera on it and sometimes like a boring video game, in which your puppet cannot find his next assignment. Even the audio design sounds like the hold music of a typical fantasy adventure game. Due to the excessive use of often very mediocre CGI, everything looks way too stylized and the series lacks character and soul, with Geralt van Rivia as the ultimate embodiment thereof. Saga (The Bridge) and Sam (Atypical) have previously proven that as a viewer you can easily lose your heart to a hypothermic and distant character, but Renalt - at least with me - never managed to do that. None of the characters, by the way. Geralt's emotionless, growling 'Christian Bale in The Dark Knight' voice also becomes almost laughable at a certain point. And then we haven't even talked about the extremely funny comic relief, the uninteresting dialogues and the weird jumps in time. Fantasy is pre-eminently a genre to completely lose yourself in, but there is so much to annoy you with The Witcher that completely immersing yourself in another world becomes almost impossible. How this series has an 8.7 on IMDb is really a mystery to me and also a direct insult to series like The Dark Crystal, Carnival Row and Game Of Thrones. Anyway, that's my opinion.

And so everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And to be honest, I usually didn't think Jaskier really added value, I agree with you. For the rest, I do not entirely agree with you ;-) Too bad that this series is not entirely yours, but there is still a lot to watch, right?

So many people, so many opinions. And flavors. Definately true. But personally I just really don't understand that there are people who are lyrical about series like Fargo, The Sopranos, Game Of Thrones or The Crown and then give The Witcher an 8.5+ with dry eyes. For me these are really different quantities. On all fronts. From acting to directing and from production to cinematography. Ahh well ...
