The 100 - Complete series
The 100 is one of the first series I started awtching on Netflix, and was also the first TV series in the Netherlands that you could follow on Netflix. It is a post-apocalyptic drama series and based on the book of the same name by Kass Morgan. I had read the books and was very curious about the series afterward. It's a fun series that is easy to follow and you can quickly look away. It has seven seasons and a hundred episodes. Unfortunately, after six years, the last season is already finished and we can only binge-watch the series again.
Ninety-seven years after a nuclear war that wiped out all of civilization, a starship housing humanity's only survivors sends a hundred juvenile delinquents back to Earth. Hoping to repopulate the planet. Teenagers Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor, the sleepover club), Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos, Tracers), Bellamy Blake (Bob Morley, The White City), Raven Reyes (Lindsey Morgan, Beyond Skyline) and John Murphy (Richard Harmon, I still see you) are sent to earth with other juvenile criminals. These are the most followed throughout the seasons and each has a strong character. When they arrive on Earth, they find that it is different from what they expected. There are still survivors called the Grounders, whom the teens now have to take into account beyond the consequences of nuclear war.
Seasons 1 to 4 are exciting and the story is told clearly. They fit together well and are well transferred to the viewer. In the seasons, the teenagers are confronted with the consequences of the nuclear war and with the people who still live on Earth. Which means they sometimes have to fight for their lives, against the laws of nature but also against people.
I found the series increasingly difficult to follow from season 5 onwards. The series kind of lost its credibility, as it started out kind of messy and I struggled to get back into it. The series repeats itself, but manages to grab me again, because it just tells a different story.
Season 5 kicks off with a second nuclear disaster. Clarke Griffin is the only one left on Earth and must survive on her own, while Octavia sheds blood in a bunker to make it clear that she is in charge. As the season progresses, the group eventually reunites and finds out that Earth is becoming uninhabitable and they head back into space. After a century of cryo sleep, they arrive in season 6 on a new planet, where they have to deal with the same things as in seasons 1 to 4. But with a slightly different twist, which also makes it interesting.
The acting performances are generally very good. The actors are well chosen and because of their acting skills they know how to get you into the story and make it exciting.
I am sad that the series has ended. It's definitely worth a look.
