Roland Emmerich's Peacock series Those About To Die picked up by Prime Video in Europe

Roland Emmerich's upcoming gladiatorial series Those About To Die has been picked up by Prime Video in Europe.

High End Productions, a collaboration between Herbert G. Kloiber and Constantin Film, signed the deal for Those About To Die, produced by Centropolis, Hollywood Gang and Street Entertainment.

When the series becomes available on Prime Video in Europe, it will become a rare example of a Peacock series that can be watched on a different streamer in other territories.

Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Poland, Turkey, Andorra, Monaco, Luxembourg and Belgium will all see the release on Prime Video. The free television rights outside the exclusive distribution window on Prime Video are currently under negotiation with various licensees in Europe, according to Constantin Film.

The Peacock Original stars Anthony Hopkins (pictured, Westworld) as Emperor Vespasian during the height of the Roman Empire. The bored, restless and increasingly violent Roman populace is kept in line mainly by two things: free food and spectacular entertainment, in the form of chariot races and gladiator fights. The races at Circus Maximus are controlled by four patrician companies, the Blue, Red, White and Green factions, and shares in the four factions are the most valuable things in Rome.

In addition to Hopkins, Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones), Tom Hughes (Victoria), Sara Martins (Death In Paradise) and Gabriella Pession (Crossing Lines) also play. Emmerich co-directs with Marco Kreuzpaintner (The Lazarus Project) and the series is written by Oscar nominee Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan).

In June, Deadline revealed that Independence Day director Emmerich had teamed up with the team behind World of Warcraft for a new Space Nation franchise.
