Top Dog - Season 2

The second season of Top Dog provides excellent crime drama from Swedish soil.
The first season was already pretty good. This second season may be even better. In (only) six episodes you are sucked into the world of crime, power games, violence, impossible love and intrigue.

Criminal Teddy Maksumic (Alexej Manvelov, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan) and mafia boss Isak (Mahmut Suvakci, Grenseland) try to launder their affairs by working with the construction industry. It ensures that the younger guard has taken over drug dealing. They do this ruthlessly and violently. This creates tensions that also affect Teddy's immediate environment. His unstable relationship with his ex-wife and child does not get any better.

These six episodes are incredibly exciting.

Emily Jansson (Josefin Asplund, Vikings) has a complex love affair with Teddy. Her ambition as a lawyer stands in the way of a serious relationship. Yet both are constantly attracted to each other. However, when Emily sees her chance to make a career, the question is what she will choose. The big money and more stability or love? Her life is put under further strain when her mother returns to the scene. There is no question of a warm bond between the two. If it also turns out that her new employer is not what she had thought in advance, things don't get any better.

The second season is wonderfully exciting. These six episodes are incredibly exciting. The level of acting is high. The plot is surprising and there are also plenty of unexpected things happening. That keeps you constantly on the edge of your seat. Nobody is safe. That will become apparent as this season progresses. The mutual relationships are further explored realistically. The love and tension between Emily and Teddy is palpable. The special bond between the two ensures that they are regularly faced with difficult choices. Teddy and Emily's family ties also play an important role. It provides a layered story in which not only crime but also social relationships are central.

The dark atmosphere of the images helps to give Top Dog the right setting.

The dark atmosphere of the images helps to give Top Dog the right setting. The same applies to the places where the images were shot. This is not an ode to crime but a pretty realistic picture of how things can go. Of course sufficiently romanticized so that we can really enjoy it. The conclusion is that Top Dog is top television.

About the writer, Karzal

Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
