In the two weeks since the video game adaptation launched, it's the most binge-watched premiere of a Peacock comedy series to date. According to NBCUniversal, the average account watched about three episodes at a time, with some choosing to watch all ten episodes in one sitting.
The company didn't report exactly how many people have watched Twisted Metal, but it apparently joins the ranks of Bel-Air, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, Poker Face, and Based on a True Story as one of Peacock's top five original series to date. now.
Nielsen data shows that Twisted Metal drew 400 million watch minutes the weekend following its July 27 premiere, making it one of the most watched streaming Originals of the week.
Twisted Metal is a high-octane action comedy based on an original version by Deadpool authors Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick about a foul-mouthed outsider (played by Anthony Mackie) who gets a chance at a better life, but only if he can deliver a mysterious package in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he must contend with savage marauders in destructive vehicles and other dangers on the open road, including a deranged clown in an all-too-familiar ice cream truck.
In addition to Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church, Will Arnett and Joe Seanoa star in the series. Neve Campbell, Richard Cabral, Mike Mitchell, Tahj Vaughans and Lou Beatty Jr. play guest roles.
Michael Jonathan Smith wrote the series and was the showrunner. He also co-produced with Reese and Wernick. Other executive producers include Will Arnett and Marc Forman (Electric Avenue), Jason Spire (Inspire Entertainment), Peter Principato (Artists First), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions and Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios.
