In addition to starring Anthony Mackie (Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and professional wrestler Samoa Joe, the cast is completed with Will Arnett, Thomas Haden Church, Mike Mitchell, Chelle Ramos and Jason Mantzoukas, among others.
The series was developed by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Michael Jonathan Smith. Reese and Wernick have been working together since the 1990s and are also the creative forces behind cult classic Zombieland and the Deadpool trilogy. Smith comes on board for this project as writer and showrunner.
They found their inspiration for the series in the Playstation game of the same name, which was first released in 1995. The game revolves around a deadly competition in which different drivers in specially adapted vehicles must destroy each other. The goal is to be the last one standing. The winner will meet with Calypso, the mysterious organizer of the competition, who will grant one wish, no matter how big, expensive or even unrealistic that wish is.
Twisted Metal promises an exciting mix of action, humor and unforgettable characters. The series was nominated earlier this year for the Primetime Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Stunt Coordination for Comedy Programming category.
Twisted Metal is a Sony production. The complete series can be seen on Streamz from Thursday, October 24.
