Vienna Blood - Season 3

The British/Austrian version of Sherlock and Watson flourishes in this third season of Vienna Blood.
Protégé of Freud and physician Max Liebermann (Matthew Beard, Magpie Murders) is drawn back into the world of crime when police officer Oskar Reinhardt (Juergen Maurer, Neben der Spur) calls on him. Max is the one who knows how to solve things from a medical point of view and his experience with the human psyche. Oskar is more of a brute force, although he also knows how to use his brains. This ideal duo ensures that all three cases are brought to a successful conclusion in the third season. It's a comforting thought.

Of course, solving these complex issues does not happen automatically. Not only do the murders cause headaches, but the private relationships also have a major influence on both men. Max has been struggling with his love life for some time. Although the engagement to Carla Weiss (Luise von Finckh, Schlafende Hunde) did not happen because of him, they clearly still have feelings for each other.

In this third season, both revolve uncomfortably around each other again. It ensures that Max's family has some hope again. However, they are afraid that Max will give Carla a broken heart again.

Oskar struggles to forget his painful past. That seems to be changing this season. Unfortunately, the new situation is a little too similar to his past, which makes it questionable whether Oskar dares to take the step. There is a glimmer of hope, but the question is whether it will not become despair.

Vienna Blood is an extremely ingeniously put together series.

Vienna Blood is an extremely ingeniously put-together series. The British/Austrian collaboration creates its own atmosphere. This is also thanks to the many beautiful locations in Vienna where filming took place. The series is recommended just because of the use of this city and the combination with the beautiful costumes and decoration of the sets. It produces beautifully shot images. Not only from the jet set, but also from the deprived neighborhoods where the less fortunate workers live their lives.

What is also funny but works well is the German accent of English that is spoken. Normally this would (could) be a negative point, but since the actors really speak German, it now sounds very natural. Especially because British actors don't bother to give themselves an accent.

This series has already proven to be a hit. Vienna Blood is not a series that makes it too exciting. People opt for entertainment with a dark edge. That dark edge is cleaned up by fantastic images of the environment and the beautiful costumes. That balance is actually present throughout the entire television series. It doesn't really shock, despite the fact that the murders are gruesome, but the story remains exciting enough to keep you interested. That, coupled with the storylines about the private lives of the main characters, makes Vienna Blood simply wonderful entertainment.
