Voetbalouders - Season 1

Voetbalouders (aka Football Parents) shows where children have a heart for the sport, the parents only want one thing, that their child is the best and is scouted. That the parents are ruining it for the children, they do not realize at all.
Voetbalouders is a Dutch Netflix series about, as the title suggests, football parents. Ilse Warringa, known from De Luizenmoeder, plays Vito's mother. An over-enthusiastic, much too busy and super proud mother who doesn't realize what the other football parents think of her. She is the administrator of the group app Kanjers where all the parents of the children, or rather parents of the kanjers, are in. Delightfully exaggerated, full of spelling mistakes and far too many exclamation marks and especially an abundance of messages. This app group is the common thread of this series. Every episode the messages fly around your ears. From motivations to task divisions, requests and encouraging words. This series gives a very accurate picture of what you can expect from very involved football parents.

Where the children are passionate about the sport, the parents only want one thing, that their child is the best and is scouted. They do not realize at all that the parents are ruining it for the children. They think that their child is of course the best and deserves to be in the game, while the new acquisition, Vito, is not seen on the field by most football parents. This series from the Netherlands is exactly that, wonderfully Dutch. The cursing shoots around your ears and no one is safe from the wrath of the proud parents. They do not think about the fact that the children would rather build friendships and run after a ball together and in this the series sometimes misses the mark. Much feels too exaggerated and no longer realistic. At a certain point in the series you reach the point where it is no longer worth watching.

There are enough small sidetracks in this series. One of the parents is a professional football player and with a child as a football player you should be incredibly proud, right? But that parent is almost never in the picture and misses the mark as a father figure. The fact that one of the mothers does not dare to drive also gets a lot of attention while this storyline comes completely out of nowhere and has no relevance to the characters. There are certainly enough interesting and also hilarious characters to be found in this series but there is also enough missing to make the series Voetbalouders a real success. For those who like a comedy without too much clear content I can tell you that it is certainly very entertaining. However, do not expect too much from the storylines because at times they are even too painful to watch. But for those who enjoy this it will certainly be worth it.

Voetbalouders is a series that you can easily watch in one day and will certainly provide the necessary entertainment if you are not looking for an in-depth series with interesting content. A series that you can watch in one go with your mind switched off.
