Revivals of Weeds and Nurse Jackie in development at Showtime

Weeds and Nurse Jackie may return to Showtime with new episodes. Revivals of both series are currently in development at the cable channel.

Note: This news item contains spoilers for previous seasons of the series.

Starring Edie Falco, Eve Best, Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Peter Facinelli, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith, Ruby Jerins, Daisy Tahan, Stephen Wallem and Haaz Sleiman, Nurse Jackie (pictured) follows ER nurse Jackie Peyton (Falco) in a New York hospital as she tries to juggle patients, doctors, fellow nurses and her indiscretions.

Nurse Jackie

The original series aired for seven seasons, from 2008-15 on Showtime. According to Deadline, Falco will return if the revival continues, but no plot has been set yet. In the original series finale, it was unclear if Jackie had survived an overdose. The revival was to be written/produced by Abe Sylvia and Liz Flahive, writer-producers on the original series.

Weeds, also a comedy, stars Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, Hunter Parrish, Kevin Nealon, Alexander Gould, Justin Kirk, Andy Milder, Allie Grant, and Romany Malco. The story follows a suburban mother, Nancy Botwin (Parker), who takes up selling drugs after her husband's death.

Weeds

The original series aired for eight seasons between 2005-12. Christian Torpe, creator of the popular Danish series Rita, would write and produce the revival Nancy could find in Copenhagen.

This isn't the first time a potential Weeds revival has been in the works. In 2019, Victoria Morrow, co-executive producer of the original series, developed a sequel for Starz that fell through.

While both revivals have yet to receive the green light from Showtime, the cable channel previously announced plans to focus on expanding existing properties like Dexter and Billions.
