Wild Cards renewed for a second season

The Canadian series Wild Cards is returning for a second season on The CW.

The news broke when original channel CBC renewed the series and unveiled it during the Upfronts. It means a bit of good news for The CW, which canceled Walker last week, while Canadian drama The Spencer Sisters, which also aired, was canceled on CTV.

Wild Cards

The series, starring Giacomo Gianniotti, Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, was one of The CW's highest-grossing series last year.

Earlier this month, The CW's President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz said he would like to bring the series back for more episodes.

Wild Cards is a crime series with a comedic twist that follows the unlikely duo of a gruff, sardonic cop and a feisty, smart con artist.

Ellis (Gianniotti) plays a demoted detective who has spent the past year on the maritime unit, while Max (Morgan) lives a transient life where she cons everyone she meets. But when Max is arrested and Ellis helps solve a local crime, the two get a chance to redeem themselves, with Ellis returning to the detective force and Max staying out of prison.

The catch? They must work together and each use their unique skills to solve crimes. Terry Chen and Karin Konoval also star in the series.

The series is produced by Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures and Piller/Segan with Michael Konyves serving as showrunner. He produces alongside Shawn Piller, James Genn, Lloyd Segan, Alexandra Zarowny and James Thorpe.

Wild Cards is produced by Charles Cooper and Virginia Rankin and distributed internationally by Fifth Season.

The second season will premiere in the winter of 2025 on both The CW and CBC and will consist of thirteen episodes.

“We are thrilled to order a second season of The CW’s breakout series Wild Cards,” said Liz Wise Lyall, Head of Scripted Programming, The CW Network. “Wild Cards has clearly captured the imagination of our viewers thanks to exhilarating storytelling and the crackling chemistry between Vanessa and Giacomo. We are confident Wild Cards is the kind of smart and sexy blue-sky drama that could continually build its audience for years.”
