It's Sunday morning. Early. You couldn't sleep. Even the children are still in their beds mumbling against the Sponge Bob wallpaper. You stare out a bit. It is quiet on the street. The first rays of the sun slowly make their way into the front garden. The perfect morning to gently pull a sponge over your Opel Astra again. The water is actually too hot, but you just put your claws halfway up your forearm in the water. You have faced hotter fires. After an hour of scrubbing, your image on wheels will shine like the teeth of an American talk show host. This is going to be a nice day. Once at the front door you glance over your shoulder at the fruits of your labor and guess what ?! Whole roof and windshield undercut by those cunt sparrows from your gutter. Your "Goddamn!" echoes through the empty street of the Vinex and with a great sense of drama you throw the half-empty bucket of suds against the tiles of the driveway. “Why does this always have to happen to me ?! How much bad luck can someone be ?! ”. But is it bad luck? Was the sparrow accidentally emptying on the roof of your car on the way to work or was there an attack? Did the cat really have no idea that he was using your new Hugo Boss boots as a scratching post or are we talking about deliberate terrorism? Is it a coincidence that the enormous bouvier is shaking dry next to your towel after a refreshing dip in the North Sea or does that barker know very well what he is doing? In the new CBS series Zoo they assume the latter. That's quite something. From one day to the next some people all over the world are attacked by groups of animals. Different kinds of animals. Lions. Dogs. Birds. That work. Just about every beast dragged onto the boat by Noah at the time seems to project all his discontent on humanity. That is a problem, because eating a baguette in the park with your courtship has suddenly become life-threatening. You can still sell one squirrel a shovel with your size 44, but if they reach 50 with a male, it will be a different story. Especially when it seems that they also have Navy Seal-like tactics. Animal lover Jackson Oz decides with an eclectic group of specialists to investigate what is going on, because the world cannot go on like this. Man must of course remain the sole ruler in the food chain. Simba and co have been watching for a while what will become of the world if you let humanity take its course and have now had enough. In itself I think that is quite an interesting fact. A starting point that you could build a nice series around, but apart from the first two episodes, Zoo lacks a real tension to keep the viewer captivated to the end. The fact that every four-legged friend is potentially a danger alone is of course not enough. Unlike my toilet paper, this lacks sufficient layers (I would like to say sorry to the visually inclined among you here.). Besides the 'animal problem', there is little taste in it. There should be a lot of salt and pepper at the dining room table. It is all somewhat one-dimensional. The story, the characters, the vibe. CBS has announced that they are sticking with it for a second season, so maybe they can take things to the next level in round two. In that case, Zoo is a no-brainer that you can look away with childlike ease on any autumn weekend. gumstarr.com

Reminds me a bit of the movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but with animals in general. Plus Billy Burke and Kristen Connolly are playing, what's not to like?

To be fair, the idea is a bit particularly defined, but the detail is certainly good. It's not all of a sudden that animals and stuff start talking of course. I think it is looking away well so far (2 ep) and it still builds up a nice tension. I don't know if the series can keep this up, but I will keep watching.
