Alone Australia is an Australian survival reality television competition series on SBS which premiered on 29 March 2023.[1] It follows the self-documented daily struggles of 10 individuals as they survive alone in the wilderness for as long as possible using a limited amount of survival equipment. The participants are isolated from each other and all other humans, with the participants having to self-document and film their experiences themselves. They may "tap out" at any time or be removed due to failing a medical check-in. The contestant who remains the longest wins a grand prize of $250,000.

After the 10 seasons of the American series "Alone", I was curious about the Australian version. Of course, this is my opinion, so don't be influenced by what I say. The prize money for the winner here is $250,000 instead of $500,000 (and probably even less, because I think it concerns Australian dollars, in which case you only win about $165,000 American dollars). Furthermore, from the very first moment I wondered what decision was made to choose these 10 people for the program. The majority of the participants had no business being there. Also, I've never seen such a depressing location before... Tasmania's West coast. The better candidates did their best to make something of it, but actually finding food was certainly disappointing. A second season will start soon in New Zealand... I'm curious whether lessons have been learned from the somewhat poor direction of season 1.

After the first season there was also a 2nd season. I found the previous location in Tasmania very disappointing. So I hoped, if there was a sequel, it would be somewhere else. And yes, it could hardly have been better. Aotearoa on the South Island of New Zealand. Until about 5 years ago I always had the desire to travel to New Zealand and then with a one-way ticket, no way back. I'm 60 now and it never happened and it won't happen again. But what an amazing, beautiful location here. Something started to tickle me. I could have tried to participate in this program myself, but I don't like fish and the saying "Hunger makes raw beans sweet" doesn't exist for me. This time too, the 10 participants had to do nothing but be the last to persevere. The first dropouts were those people who on the first day acted cool about how many years they had lived this kind of life, ex-military, cops, survival guides and so on. You don't want to know how many skills they didn't have and that it would be a piece of cake to win. After a few days they did nothing but whine and make excuses. Actually exactly the same as the "Alone USA" participants. I've seen so many of these survival shows and it's the same everywhere. But luckily things got interesting at a certain point when the better ones remained. You actually see that it is becoming more and more a psychological thing. The daily urge to find food makes everything increasingly difficult, because there is no guarantee that you will find food every day (or week). The last 6 contestants made it through this season. The mistakes of the first season were no longer there. Still enjoyed it again. And now we just have to wait and see if there will be another season 3.
