You can agree or disagree, but as far as I'm concerned, comedies can be roughly divided into three categories: cringe-worthy comedies, shot nine times out of ten on a set with cardboard walls and plastic plants and can't even be saved by the discarded laugh track from Bob Saget's Funniest Home Videos. Yes, I mean your Truth Be Told, Mr Robinson and The Carmichael Show; 'nothing-to-the-hand-for-everyone-actually-ok-to-watch ”comedies such as Black-ish, The Last Man On Earth and Modern Family and finally the third type of comedy, the adult and some cynical and uncomfortable comedy with some regularity. If we already had gourmets in this category like You're The Worst, Catastrophe and Peep Show, now Hulu also adds Casual to that list. Thanks Hulu. Alex crafted a kind of Tinder together with a friend and made a big wheelbarrow with money from the desperation of the frustrated American dater. With that money he bought a German car and a house with lots of space. Space that comes in handy, because after a failed marriage, his sister Valerie and her teenage daughter Laura decide to move in with him temporarily. Now all of the space in his man cave is suddenly held hostage by sanitary towels, long hair in the shower drain and an accumulation of women's problems. Poor, Alex. Especially when you consider that he himself already struggled with some things that don't quite go the way they should. That is not the case with the all-consuming love and Alex. He's a dating site guru, but finding his own Yoko Ono. The relationship with his parents also leaves a lot to be desired. Fortunately, Valerie, Laura and he can pull together a bit, while the world around them seems to be collapsing emotionally. Dramatic, huh? If you're not averse to being a bit cynical, raw and wringing, then Casual might be one for you. It is certainly not “Girls of Transparent” unpolished, but Hulu does not shy away from the functional awkward silence or bare tit. It is the life of the thirty-something who has no problem adding 'fuck' to his words. The life that sometimes only seems to keep you throwing curve balls. Casual sheds some light on the ugly side we all carry with us, some more flashy than others. That we are all looking for our own happiness and that it differs per person how far you want to go to get it. Something like that. About. That's Casual. www.gumstarr.com
