Did we all go equally well at Narcos last year ?! Rightly so. What a series. What could be better than watching insane delusions of grandeur for ten episodes, which also happened? Well, how about SEVENTY FOUR episodes looking at insane delusions of grandeur that actually happened? That is possible. Where Netflix has neatly reduced the story of the drug lord di tutti drug lords to two bite-sized seasons of 10 episodes, they have taken a little more time for it at Caracol. Almost all of 2012 to be precise. Five nights a week from May to October, Don Pablo shot everyone who had the gore guts to stand between him and his beloved plata. Pablo Escobar: El Patrón Del Mal is therefore not one for the people who have to make do with a small portion of sitting meat. For the persistent it is a must, although that is not immediately because it is such a great good series. If you put Pablo Escobar: El Patrón Del Mal along the yardstick of everything that can be great about a series, it falls short in almost all areas. Actors? They don't have to be able to act at all, dude. If they stand upright and can thump up four lines of text, then that's just fine. Special effects? Thunderbirds was also a great success and you could still see all the strings there. Audio post-processing? Isn't that necessary at all? What does it matter that in the more energetic scenes the microphone is panted like a Beagle who has just spent a whole day fetching in the loose sand of Scheveningen? Nothing. Of course it seems as if the cast of Goeie Tijden, Bad Tijden has decided to tell the story of Pablo this television season. Sure, Narcos is the better choice in almost all areas, but is it as addictive as Pablo Escobar? I dare to doubt it.
