Yonkers is a bit like the Amstelveen of New York. Where the Dutch middle-class snoring city is still separated from Amsterdam by the A10, the white old man's box of The Big Apple actually flows directly from the suburb of The Bronx. It is pleasant to live in Yonkers. Sparrows whistle in the park, you can just pin without having to look over your shoulder and there is plenty of space. Enough space, says the State, to build some houses for the less fortunate. The residents do not entirely agree with this. The less fortunate listen to loud music, the less fortunate hit their wives, the less fortunate are in drug logistics, and if they're not in it, they use it. The fact that the less fortunate in question are not completely white is of course no reason at all to put their heels in the sand en masse. Years of revolt and yelling at various mayors are the result and the question is therefore whether a pile will ever be driven into the Yonkers ground at all. How I was looking forward to this series. A bit like you couldn't wait for that first day of school, so that the prettiest girl in the class could scribble things into your new O'Neill diary. A kind of vague butterflies in the stomach that want to struggle their way out. The makers of The Wire, who once again craft a series full of political intrigue and racial tension for HBO ... What's not to like? Well, maybe the fact that this time they come up with a six-part, which is even slower than Britt Dekker during a math test. They say the first episode lasts 50 minutes, but I got the feeling that I could have driven to the South of France at the time. By bike. Against the wind. With one leg. Guns fashion juutjes. Yes, HBO has opened another can of actors who understand their trade. Yes, HBO manages to create a raw eighties vibe again, which gives this true story exactly the right feeling. Yes, people who get through the first 50 minutes will get into a kind of cadence that makes watching Show Me A Hero possible, but is it enough? Sum will say yes, sum will say no. I simmer a questionable yes. Enough to take a look at it in between the companies, but not enough to know in a year's time that you watched it.
