The Wire

Along with 'Six Feet Under', this series is one of the best drama/crime series made. HBO is king in this area. Sublime actors, great storylines, beautiful plots, impressive themes. You should not watch this series if you like cool action, this series has different layers and depth and you really sit down for this. It drags you along. The last episode grabbed me by the throat. There's one scene that, for me, completely sums up the creators' class: A main character having something happen to something in one of the last episodes, a 20 second scene, with no music underneath, and moving on to the next scene as if nothing happened. I watched with open mouth. In my opinion the best series ever made.

Just like with Dexter, I also kept this series in the waiting room for a long time, but every series watcher owes it to himself to watch this series. All the more because of a score of 9.4 on imdb from no fewer than 93000 members. The Wire gets off to a slow start, not the usual rush and action one knows with other series, but goes very deep, hard and rough into Baltimore street life. It does not shy away from anything ; degradation of the port, the difficult education system, the tough politics, always centered on the drug environment and the police force. Give it a chance, keep looking, there are a lot of life lessons in it! A must see!
