The Missing
The Missing is een Britse misdaadserie van de zender BBC One. De serie ging in première op 28 oktober 2014.
The Missing vertelt in het eerste seizoen het pakkende verhaal van het Britse jongetje Oliver dat plots verdwijnt op vakantie in Frankrijk. Zijn ouders en de politie stellen alles in het werk om hem terug te vinden. Tot alle sporen dood lijken te lopen en het koppel alleen terugkeert naar Engeland. The Missing verteld in het tweede seizoen het verhaal van een een koppel, wiens dochter vermist wordt sinds 2003. Elf jaar later strompelt een jonge Britse vrouw door de straten van een Duitse stad en zakt in elkaar.
NB. De spin-off Baptiste wordt op Netflix uitgezonden als het derde seizoen van The Missing, dit is officieel niet correct. De afleveringen kunnen onder https://www.mijnserie.nl/baptiste/ worden afgevinkt.

Too bad there is no follow-up season that builds on the previous one, I would like to know if that boy is really Oliver ......

It's every parent's nightmare. You put your head in the refrigerator at the local supermarket, so that you can grab that last carton of semi-skimmed milk with an outstretched arm, do you want to put liquid conquest next to your child in the shopping cart with due pride… child gone. "He will be making up another plea at the chips department why the Ringelings should really be taken home this time", you think, but once you get there, there is no sign of a mini-me in any fields or roads. Discomfort only really turns into full blown panic when it turns out that no one has seen a small fashion victim in size 26 Air Jordan Vs at the cash registers – where those small terrorists often beg for football cards on an almost professional level. Shouting has long since become hysterical screaming and the most terrible scenarios are already passing you in your head. Well, that's pretty much the basis of The Missing. Cozy is not it? Tony and his wife Emily's lives are turned upside down when some lunatic runs off with their son Oliver while on vacation in France. The extensive search that follows yields nothing, but Tony refuses to accept it. He decides not to rest until the bottom stone is over, even though this puts a heavy strain on his marriage and the relationships with the people around him. Go Tony! The Missing is sober, slow and stripped of explosions and high speed chaces with Uzi shooting gym boys hanging out of the passenger door. The dialogue and the story are central and that is nice. The Missing is a classic beauty and they generally don't need much to look good.

Phew, a waste of my time! What a slow series with all kinds of twists and turns that keep you on the wrong track.

You sometimes have those series that you think for a few years, I would like to see that again, but then it never happens. For me that was The Missing. I finally started it, and I have to say: what a quality series!

What a beautiful series ... gripping story and ditto acted. Especially switching from the present and back to 2006 is not confusing and really does the story well. And yet ... a 2nd season ?? because the end still gives plenty of questions ....
